How to use Doha Metro, Metrolink and Metroexpress

Making travel within Qatar easier and convenient, public transportation has hit the next level in the country. You can now reach faster and seamlessly across the country, making travel fun and easy.

Doha Metro

Doha Metro, a crucial component of the Qatar Rail network, links various capital city suburbs and neighboring towns. There are elevated and underground stations, and the Msheireb station connects the three lines. There are three lines of the Doha metro namely the green line, the red line and the gold line. You easily reach destinations such as Villaggio Mall, Souq Waqif, Lusail Marina, Qatar National Library and so on with ease using these lines on the Doha Metro.

How to use Doha Metro?

Residents and international fans holding Hayya cards can avail the metro full free of cost using their Hayya card. For those who don't possess a Hayya card, you can easily avail a travel metro card which is of QAR 10 for initial purchase and QAR 2 for every entry and exit into every metro station. Green Ehteraz is mandatory to enter any metro station.

The Red Line

40 kilometers separate Al Wakra in the south from Lusail in the north along the Red Line. Additionally, this route runs from Terminal 1 of Hamad International Airport to the city's center. There are 18 stations that are currently operational, including West Bay Qatar Energy, Katara, and Qatar University. Al Bidda and Msheireb are the two interchange stations for the Red and Green and Red and Green and Blue metro lines, respectively, on the Red Line. Additionally, Legtaifiya and Lusail QNB serve as the Metro and Tram's interchange stations.

The Green Line

From Al Mansoura to Al Riffa Mall of Qatar in the west, the Green Line travels east. There are eleven stops along the line, with Al Shaqab, Education City, Hamad Hospital, and Qatar National Library being prominent ones.

The Gold Line

From Ras Bu Aboud to Al Aziziyah, the Gold Line runs east to west. The Qatar National Museum, Souq Waqif, Sport City (for the Khalifa International Stadium), and Al Aziziyah are among the eleven stations along the Gold Line that have stops (for Villaggio Mall).

Timings: Saturday to Wednesday: 6 am- 11 pm

                Thursday: 6 am – 11:59 pm

                Friday: 2 pm – 11:59 pm

Price: Standard - Single journey – QAR 2,  Day pass – QAR 6, Travel Card cost – QAR 10

           Goldclub - Single journey – QAR 10,  Day pass – QAR 30, Travel Card cost – QAR 100

Metrolink 

Metrolink is a feeder bus network that provides first and last-mile connectivity to Qatar Rail users within a 2 to 5-kilometer radius of the Doha Metro stations. Except for non-peak hours at Free Zone Station, Metrolink operates every 12 minutes. Maps may be found at Metro station entrances, on the Qatar Rail website, and on the Qatar Rail App.

Timings: 

  • Saturday to Wednesday: 6 am to 11 pm
  • Thursday: 6 am to 11:59 pm
  • Friday: 2 pm to 11:59 pm

Metroexpress

Al Qassar, Katara, Legtaifiya, Qatar University, DECC, and West Bay are served by Metroexpress. Metroexpress is a free trial ride-sharing service that can be booked using its dedicated app.

Only registered Metro customers who are on their way to or have completed their Metro ride are permitted to access this gratis service.

The metroexpress, like other ride applications, may be booked using a smartphone app. You will be required to enter your name, phone number, and email address. You only need to enter your chosen pick-up and drop-off locations when booking. You can also specify how many people will be traveling with you. You will also be able to monitor how many minutes until your metroexpress transport arrives.

Timings: 

  • Saturday to Wednesday from 5:45 am to 11 pm
  • Thursday from 5:45 am to 11:59 pm
  • Friday from 2 pm to 11:59 pm
